LANDS OF VIETNAM

From 23 May 2014 to 08 September 2014.

Vietnam Lands au Museum of Fine Arts - 28, rue Gargoulleau - 17000 LA ROCHELLE.

On the occasion of the France-Vietnam Cross Years, the Art and History Museums of La Rochelle wish to highlight their collection of Vietnamese ceramics. The latter, although few, are of undeniable quality. Dated essentially from XIIe and XIIIe centuries, they illustrate the ceramic production under the Ly (1009-1225) and Tran (1225-1400) dynasties. This collection, which has never been exhibited, will be enriched by works loaned by the Musée Cernuschi, Museum of Asian Arts of the City of Paris, to show the evolution and specificities of Vietnamese ceramics, from around our era until the production of Bat Trang.

In parallel ceramics, will be exposed gouaches and drawings of André Maire, traveling painter of the XXe century. His works on Vietnam evoke the country of origin of ceramics in an original way and establish a dialogue between old and new works, between East and West.
