Visit to the “Eternal Snows” exhibition by Japanese ceramist Akihiro Maeta at the Mayaro gallery for his first solo show in Paris

Friday April 26, 11 a.m. – Galerie Mayaro, 20 rue Amélie, Paris 7th.

The Society of Friends of the Cernuschi Museum invites you to come and discover the first Parisian exhibition by the artist Akihiro Maeta, presented from April 25 to May 25, 2024 at the Mayaro gallery.

“When I began to study ceramics, I was deeply moved by the audacity of the vessel shapes sculpted through white porcelain, devoid of any adornment, of any color. This is what pushed me to delve into creating white porcelain alone.
Why do I have to sculpt from white porcelain; first of all, what is white porcelain? It is by thinking about these existential questions that I work on his creation every day, from his sculpture to his enamelling. I live in a humid climate despite its gentle sunshine. In winter, there is sometimes so much snow that the mountains and fields are completely covered in white. It's an extraordinary spectacle, which always manages to move me. I could almost feel the changing colors within the white itself, reflected by the soft lights and shadows. These same reflections emerge from the surfaces of my works, it is then that I realize that I too have been deeply influenced by the landscapes of my hometown (…).

This is my first solo show in Paris. I am nervous but equally eager to find out how my works will be received. I sincerely hope that you will fully enjoy this exhibition. »
