As part of the celebration of the 140th anniversary of diplomatic relations between France and Korea, the Cernuschi Museum invites you to discover, in a monographic exhibition, some thirty works by the Korean artist. Shin Sung Hy (1948-2009).
Shin Sung Hy Today, Shin Sung Hy is a recognized artist in the Korean art world, where he has had numerous exhibitions and his work has been included in many public collections. He is also an important figure in the cultural exchange between his homeland and France, where he lived from 1980 until his death in 2009. His work, however, has remained relatively unknown in his adopted country, despite a particularly rich and fruitful dialogue with the French art scene. While Shin Sung Hy's work maintains clear, albeit distant, connections with the dansaekhwa, a Korean pictorial movement that took off in the 1970s and which literally translates as "monochrome painting", it is above all deeply nourished by the example of Supports-Surfaces, an ephemeral yet influential collective of French artists active between 1969 and 1971.
