Meeting around the uses of bamboo in Vietnam

conference by Emmanuel Poisson and Đinh Trọng Hiếu.

Emmanuel Poisson is professor of Vietnamese history at the University of Paris and deputy director of the French Institute for Research on East Asia (IFRAE). Đinh Trọng Hiếu is a former CNRS researcher, anthropologist and ethnobotanist from Vietnam. Together they conducted an anthropological and historical survey on the symbols and uses of bamboo in Vietnam, crossing sources in demotic, classical Chinese and modern Vietnamese. Their presentation will be based on a very rich iconography, wood engravings or lithographic plates, which they will comment on to illustrate the symbols and daily uses of bamboo.
