Open Space #13 Xie Lei “Beyond”
Until April 2, 2024 at the Louis Vuitton Foundation.
Chinese artist Xie Lei presents “Beyond” in Gallery 3, as part of the Open Space program dedicated to contemporary creation.
Painting is for Xie Lei a language aimed at translating a sensitive universe and a field of experimentation serving to explore the specificity of this medium in contemporaneity. His practice starts from reality but escapes from it to explore ambiguous, uncertain worlds, which his imagination transforms. Inspired by traditional Chinese imagery, ancient rituals and Western mythology, his paintings refer to troubled or disturbing situations, discreetly linked to literary and cinematographic memories, or drawn from his own emotions. The themes covered are often dark and disturbing, such as the in-between sleep and death, torment and eroticism.
