The Future of Forms – Contemporary Japanese Ceramics

From May 27 to September 21, 2025

To celebrate Japanese summer, the Cernuschi Museum is presenting a collection of ten ceramics from its collections, created between 2006 and 2020, in the Buddha Hall. Some of these pieces are being shown to the public for the first time.

Contemporary creation
Seventy-five years ago, the Cernuschi Museum presented the first exhibition of contemporary Japanese ceramics in France under the direction of René Grousset, bringing together both traditional and avant-garde works. More recently added to the collections, the pieces now on public display demonstrate the museum's renewed commitment to contemporary Japanese creation, in all its diversity. This openness is manifested both by a desire to contribute to the protection of a technical and aesthetic heritage and by highlighting profoundly innovative approaches to materials and forms.
