Chinese painting; the dream and the night

Lecture by Yolaine Escande, research director at the CNRS.

The conference will examine the pictorial themes linked to the night, that is to say first of all to the moon, and its meanings - purity, solitude, quest for virtue or hermitism, but also emptiness and impermanence; then the activities related to the night will be discussed; finally, dreams, not necessarily nocturnal. These are then the questions on the reality of our perceptions that are asked, since, according to the philosopher Zhuangzi, “Only fools think they're awake».
