Kazakhstan. Treasures of the Great Steppe
Exhibition from November 6, 2024 to March 24, 2025 at the National Museum of Asian Arts-Guimet.
An immersion in mythical and mysterious landscapes, discovering a history that is five thousand years old.
Land of the Golden Man and the great kurgans, Kazakhstan is a land of legends on the edge of the steppes of Central Asia. Crisscrossed by the mythical Silk Roads, its immense landscapes have been the scene of a rich cultural and human history. With Kazakhstan, Treasures of the Great Steppe, the Guimet Museum offers an overview of this history in five sets of masterpieces, shedding light on five major milestones of civilization, from the third millennium BC to the 18the century.
Exceptionally loaned by the greatest Kazakh museums, these treasures – including the original ornaments of the headdress of the emblematic Golden Man – are presented in a poetic and innovative scenography, which immerses the works and visitors in the landscapes of Kazakhstan.
In a sensory and immersive setting imagined by scenographer Sylvain Roca, the visitor is transported to the land that saw the birth of these masterpieces: successively, projections and sound creations will animate the works and poetically replace them in their original context for a moment of culture and change of scenery outside of time.
