Even before the first dynasties, China was interested in the Great Story of the Universe; Heaven watchers observed the movement of heavenly bodies. Cosmology and then astronomy, which have become state sciences, the sovereigns (the Sons of Heaven) are then the guarantors of harmony between Heaven, Earth and men. Throughout the exhibition, jade, “celestial stone”, accompanies the visitor through 5000 years of Chinese civilization with its symbols, its mythical bestiary and its rituals thanks to some 200 works from the Sam and Myrna Myers collection. Presented for the first time in Switzerland, this exceptional set is complemented by other gems, delicate liturgical fabrics as well as photographs of the archaeological missions of Victor Segalen (1914, 1917).
