Korean Figurations

From October 15 to 7 November 2015 at the Town Hall of the 8 district:

Korean Figurations

While the museum presents artists who have become mostly great abstract painters, the mayor of VIIIe Borough, in partnership with the Cernuschi Museum and the Society of Friends of the Cernuschi Museum, offers the public figurative works of Korean artists confirmed or promising.

Their choice of techniques, traditional or Western, their styles and experiments testify to their complex relationship to figuration. They also reveal their different sensibilities and their contrasting relationship to their original culture.
Their work bears witness to a wide variety of plastic research and styles: the naturalistic description of plant motifs rubs shoulders with, among other things, a stylization bordering on abstraction, expressionist colors and impasto or forms of hyperrealism. Each of these creators, however, contributes, to varying degrees, to the pursuit of a dialogue between Western arts and Korean culture and to the renewal of contemporary expressions of the latter.
