The Edward Gordon Craig Theater theorist's collection (1872-1966) contains a remarkable series of Japanese prints depicting kumadori. These makeups are used in one of the classic kabuki directories where they characterize each role. Tools in the service of acting, they echo Craig's thoughts on the use of masks. Their study brings a new light on Japonisme at the theater at the beginning of the XXe century.
