From samurai to manga – the Christian epic in Japan

Exhibition from March 15 to July 13, 2024

Paris Foreign Missions (MEP), 128 rue du Bac, 75007 Paris.

As revealed to the general public by Martin Scorcese's masterful film adapted from Shusaku Endo's eponymous masterpiece, Silence, relations between Christianity and Asia are ancient (for Japan alone, they date back to the 16th century) and tumultuous. Born almost 400 years ago, the Foreign Missions constitute a truly unique center of knowledge. Their France-Asia Research Institute (IRFA) brings to life a unique heritage in the world, transmitted by missionaries since the 17th century. THE March 26, we invite you to explore, rue du Bac, at the historic headquarters of the Foreign Missions: there we will discover the large library, the IRFA collections and can visit the exhibition “From samurai to manga – the Christian epic in Japan”. In this exceptional visit, we will be guided by Father Antoine, co-curator of this latest exhibition and Ms. Marie Alpais Dumoulin, Director of the IRFA. Places are limited, please register and to let us know in advance if you have an impediment.
