Circulation of Asian objects and works on the Parisian art market (1789-1914)

Study day MAY 26, 2023 9:45 a.m. to 18:30 p.m. at the INHA, Colbert Gallery, Giorgio Vasari room.

Throughout the XNUMXth century, old and recent Asian art objects circulated on the Parisian market. Their diversity is remarkable: porcelain, prints, bronzes or fabrics, from Japan or elsewhere. The study of the circulation of these objects invites to consider the different actors and actresses allowing these exchanges. Merchants are joined by personalities and institutions with multiple motivations. The origins, the means of circulation, as well as the spaces in which the buyers in Paris evolve also show that the contacts go far beyond the Parisian market.
